Series 12 will kick off in style with the Doctor encountering Stephen Fry and Sir Lenny Henry CBE

With 2020 fast approaching, bringing a new season of Doctor Who with it, more details are being announced. And following on from the recent reveal of the writers and directors for Series 12, the BBC have unveiled the first guest stars. And they don’t come much more famous in UK television. Because TV icons Stephen Fry and Sir Lenny Henry CBE will both appear in the premiere episode of Jodie Whittaker’s second season as the Doctor.

Stephen Fry expressed enthusiasm for finally appearing in Doctor Who“Short of being picked for a British space exploration programme and I readily concede that I’m past the age where I’d be considered (if I was ever the right age for such a posting) – then being in an episode of Doctor Who will certainly do as a very sweet second-place excitement.”

Meanwhile, Sir Lenny Henry CBE recalled that prior to this “the nearest I had been to the TARDIS was when I played the Caribbean Doctor in The Lenny Henry Show.” But of finally appearing in Doctor Who itself, he said that “as a life-long (hiding behind the sofa type) Doctor Who fan this is a very special moment for me.” Henry also described it as “absolutely brilliant to be welcomed into the fantastical world of Doctor Who.”

Chris Chibnall, who took over as Doctor Who showrunner last year, called Henry and Fry “two of my absolute favourite actors.

One of the great joys of Doctor Who is getting to work with actors from your
wish list and to be able to bring them into Doctor Who is an absolute thrill.”

Chibnall also teased the story in which Fry and Henry are set to appear. Doctor Who is coming back with a bang – with two great British icons in major roles  in one of our biggest ever stories to kick off the new series.”

Armed with awealth of acting, comedy and writing credentials both are more than equipped to come face to face with the Time Lord and her friends, but will they be friend or foe remains to be seen…

Doctor Who will return in early 2020

Jodie Whittaker will reprise her role as the Thirteenth Doctor alongside Tosin Cole (Ryan) Mandip Gill (Yaz) and Bradley Walsh (Graham) who are all returning for their second series. Chris Chibnall returns as showrunner with Matt Strevens as Executive Producer.
