For the many collectors out there – Good News.

Several of the popular B & M exclusive Doctor Who sets have just been re-released. The first contains the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) with his companion, Jo Grant (Katy Manning), a UNIT employee, as well as the Doctor’s frequent frenemy, the Master (Roger Delgado). One of Pertwee’s closest friends, Delgado was the first of many actors to portray the Master. The Doctor and Jo Grant figures are same moulds as the older ones, but they now have new colours. The Doctor and Jo Grant figures are same moulds as the older ones, but they now have new colours. Happily, the figures are held in by rubber bands rather than by paper ties, which are often difficult to remove. The Doctor has his trademark bow tie (yes, the Third Doctor also thought bow ties were cool) and a nicely rendered black jacket; his costume is from the Invasion of the Dinosaurs. The Doctor’s pouf of grey hair looks just right.

Jo is dressed in a classic early 70s ensemble: her outfit, from the Time Monster, consists of awesome yellow go-go boots and a knitted dress that is to die for. Her sleeves flare out and the waist is nipped in, and it looks truly terrific.

The Master has his distinctive van Dyke beard and a steely gaze. He wears a black Nehru suit, also a seventies classic, and even in plastic, his look is penetrating.

Another new set is The Monsters, featuring three popular foes: a Zygon, a Cyberman, and an Ice Warrior. The Zygon, a longtime favourite recently featured in series 9, is covered in suckers and is coloured orange, which means that it is an adult. The Ice Warrior is a Martian, a warlike creature with a sense of honour. Its reptilian skin is well-formed and the right shade of green. The Cyberman looks more like the robotic enemy in Classic Who than the reboot, as its face and legs appear somewhat narrower than they are now. The silver colour is very good, but the eyes themselves are not painted well. It’s still an excellent set, however, and inexpensive enough for collectors who want figures to build an army.

But that’s not all. A set featuring the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) is also available. This trio of ‘lovelies’ includes two mighty foes. The ever present silver menace – The Cybermen and a swarm in a suit, otherwise known as the deadly Vashda Nerada.
