Under The Lake
Doctor Who‘s Lead Writer and Executive Producer Steven Moffat has been chatting to the BBC about the controversial decision to ditch the Sonic Screwdriver and replace it with Sonic Shades. Speaking about the shock change, Steven knew it might upset “fans”, saying:
“Sometimes you just have to embrace the heresy.
It’s fun to be naughty. I know some people will get incredibly irate about it.”
However, it seems that the Sonic Shades might not be a permanent fixture for the Time Lord with the writer adding:

“I’m sure the screwdriver will show up again some day”

The Sonic Shades were introduced in the opening episodes of Doctor Who Series 9 and were continued to be used in the second two parter, Under The Lake and Before The Flood. Watch the full interview in the player below.
