Billie Piper finishes filming Wednesday Season Two as the Netflix hit show prepares to air in 2025
Finishing has concluded on the second season of Netflix’s hit supernatural teen drama Wednesday. Based on the character from the Addams Family cartoon strip, it follows Wednesday Addams as she navigates her late teens as a boarding school full of dark secrets. Season One made a star out of series lead Jenny Ortega, who went on to Scream VI and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Season Two adds Doctor Who’s former Rose Tyler, Billie Piper, in the new role of Capri.
Not much is known about Capri as of yet, with locating filming in Ireland giving nothing away. However, given the context of the show, Piper will likely be portraying a new teacher at Nevermore Academy. Indeed, given the climactic events at the end of last season, there’s every chance Piper’s Capri is a new principal to replace Gwenoline Christie’s Larissa Weems.
Also joining the show in a guest role during the season is Joanna Lumley. Previously the Thirteenth Doctor in Steven Moffat’s 1999 Comic Relief comedy story The Curse of Fatal Death, she’ll play Grandmama Addams. The name suggests this version will be Wednesday’s paternal grandmother (and mother to Gomez and Fester Addams) originated in the 1960s TV series, rather than the otherwise identical Granny Frump (mother of Morticia) from the original comics. Meanwhile Catherine Zeta Jones and Luis Guzmán return as Morticia and Gomez Addams. Thing, as always, will play himself.
Netflix have confirmed that viewers can expect Wednesday to return to the screens sometime in 2025. Though bearing in mind the December end date for filming, and the anticipated scale of post-production work, it will probably be later in the year.
