Legendary teddy bear company Steiff are releasing an exclusive First Doctor teddy bear for Doctor Who’s diamond anniversary
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the legendary Time Lord from Gallifrey, the master craftsmen and women at Steiff have created a special, limited-edition Doctor Who collector bear – officially authorised by BBC Studios and available exclusively from Danbury Mint.
This special Doctor Who teddy bear pays tribute to the very first episode, An Unearthly Child. Moreover, in homage to the show’s black and white early years, he’s entirely in monochrome (including his iconic outfit.) His soft platinum grey fur is genuine mohair: one of the most beautiful, sustainably-sourced natural fibres in the world. All his features are delicately hand-stitched, and like all the very best collector bears, he’s five-way jointed so you can pose him easily. Finally, the perfect finishing touch is his right paw pad proudly bearing the official 60th anniversary logo.
The new bear lovingly recreates William Hartnell’s costume, monocle and all
His beautiful costume is every bit as theatrical as that worn by actor William Hartnell, but in scale to his approximately 28cm/11 inches height. He wears a smart double-breasted town coat complete with a shawl collar. His grey check trousers also compliment a patterned waistcoat and a white winged collar shirt. All topped off with a foppish black ribbon tie finished in a bow. You can even find the Doctor’s trusty monocle poking out of his waistcoat pocket!
Steiff will only ever be making 1,963 of these bears worldwide, honouring the year that the time travelling Doctor first hit our TV screens.
