Doctor Who Wins Radio Times Award

Doctor Who has won Best Science Fiction/Fantasy at this year’s Radio Times Awards

At a virtual ceremony last night, the Radio Times has named Doctor Who the Best Science Fiction/Fantasy series of 2020. The awards are voted for by the Radio Times readers and in the end Doctor Who beat strong competition to take the prize. Defeating world wide wide phenomena like The Boys and The Mandalorian also underscored the impressiveness of the win.

  • His Dark Materials
  • Lucifer
  • The Mandalorian  
  • The Umbrella Academy

Stars Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill were on hand to accept the award, direct from the Doctor Who set where they’re currently filming Series 13.

It was also a successful night for Doctor Who’s David Tennant, with Awards for Staged and Des

Other former Doctor Who stars also did well on the night with Staged winning two awards. The pandemic sitcom, featuring David Tennant and Michael Sheen trapped in Zoom call hell took home Best Comedy. Meanwhile Dame Judi Dench’s surprise appearance to scold David and Michael won TV Moment of the Year. Staged stars David and Georgia Tennant were on hand to accept Best Comedy.


There was also an award for David Tennant’s other major project of 2020. A complete contrast to Staged, Des starred Tennant as the real life serial killer Dennis Nilsen and won the Best Drama Award. Other nominees included Bridgerton, Call the Midwife, The Crown, I May Destroy You, Normal People, The Queen’s Gambit and Small Axe.
