The final viewing figures for Praxeus are here, alongside the initial results for the finale, and the +7 update for Ascension of the Cybermen
Doctor Who Series 12 has come to an end. Which means that we now have complete overnight viewing figures for the entire series, from Spyfall to The Timeless Children. But as important as those are as indicators, we still have some time to go before we have the final official picture of how Series 12 has done. But today we’ve also added the final official results for Praxeus, and the +7 update for last week’s Ascension of the Cybermen.
Praxeus has climbed to 5.6m for its final official result
Starting with the tale of an alien virus that threatens to spread around the world, Praxeus has a final official viewing figure of 5.68m. This is down 0.43m (7%) on the previous week’s Fugitive of the Judoon. This is the result of a combination of both a lower overnight and lower catch-up viewing, but perhaps understandable considering the lack of big revelations or very strong word of mouth compared to the Judoon episode. All the same, a total of 1.71m extra viewers have tuned in during the month since it was first transmitted.
A week in, Ascension of the Cybermen is almost at the 5m mark
Moving on to last week’s first part of the era defining finale, after a week it’s now just a hair under the 5m barrier. Ascension of the Cybermen has a +7 rating on 4.99m. This is down the slightest fraction on the previous episode, with just 0.08m (1.5%) less at this stage. Stronger time-shifting for Ascension, with 1.28m viewers on catch up, has meant it’s actually closed that gap since the overnights for the two episodes. With another three weeks to go before we have the episode’s final number, it’s sure to climb still higher and may well overtake the previous episode.
The release of the Series 12 finale overnights starts the final phase of viewing figures for the season
The Timeless Children was watched overnight by an audience of 3.7m, down 0.01m (0.2%) – making it a virtual tie with the first part’s overnights. With an entire month to go before we have its actual official number, it places it as likely to finish up in the region of 5.4-5.6m.
In fact, the prospects for The Timeless Children emphasize the relatively flat and stable viewing figures for this year of the Doctor’s adventures. After a slight fall for Orphan 55 following the two part series premiere, ratings have consistently bounced around within a relatively limited range. This is best illustrated by the chart below, splitting the viewing figures by overnights, +7 and +28. And Blogtor Who will be updating it over the coming weeks until we have the final result for the series as a whole.
