One starship. One Time Lord. One empty Dalek casing. What could possibly go wrong?
“It’s a great Fourth Doctor romp“
Producer Emma Haigh explained its unique links to the escape room and to Time Lord Victorious. “Genetics of the Daleks acts as a prequel to the escape room experience A Dalek Awakens, but even if people never visit the escape room itself, they can just enjoy the story as it is. It’s a great Fourth Doctor romp and it stands up on its own. There are little tidbits in our episode, so if you do the escape room there are connections there that you can make. But remember, you don’t have to have listened to our episode to complete the escape room – they just complement each other nicely.”
“It draws together elements from all eras of Doctor Who, all the way up to Revolution of the Daleks“
Writer Jonathan Morris reinforced the same point, saying, “There are little Easter Eggs in it that will add to the experience whether you listen to the audio first and then do the escape room, or listen to the audio after doing the escape room.
“That said, the most important thing, which I can’t stress too strongly, is that it also works as a standalone adventure in its own right. It’s a story that is comprehensible and satisfying for people who haven’t listened to the preceding story in Time Lord Victorious or who haven’t visited the escape room.“
Morris even suggest careful listeners might detect an influence from the upcoming New Year’s special! “If you just want an exciting story with the Fourth Doctor facing the Daleks, then this is the story for you! It draws together elements from all eras of Doctor Who, from the stories of the 60s, 70s and 80s all the way up to Resolution and the forthcoming Revolution of the Daleks. It’s like a mini action-movie!”

Something malevolent.
And it has a plan.
