Two new full-cast audio adventures featuring The Fifth Doctor and his TARDIS team are now available to own on collector’s edition CD or download

The latest release in Big Finish’s Doctor Who Monthly Adventures range is out now. Featuring two separate stories, it picks up immediately after the events of last month’s Time Apart. Firstly, in Thin Time, the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) is shut in a spooky house with some intriguing, not to say outlandish, characters. Meanwhile, Nyssa (Sarah Sutton), Tegan (Janet Fielding) and former Roman slave Marc (George Watkins) are still on the planet Callana. But there they soon come face to face with baby faced alien psychopaths the Slitheen!

The Slitheen, famously, originated in Aliens of London/World War Three, the very first Doctor Who television story to be recorded in the 21st century. They’ve previously appeared in Big Finish audios as part of The Tenth Doctor Chronicles, Lady Christina, and Torchwood. But this is their first audio monster mash with 20th century Doctor Who. But while Nyssa and Tegan survive the encounter to be reunited with the Doctor?

The Big Finish team ‘couldn’t resist’ the mixing of Doctor Who’s 1983 and 2005 vintages

Both adventures have been directed by Scott Handcock, who’s revealed that the pair represent a Doctor-lite/Companion-lite dynamic. Thin Time and Madquake is another double-bill release written by Dan Abnett and Guy Adams respectively. Our TARDIS teams are still separated from one another. So the first tale focuses on the Doctor’s exploits, while the second checks in on his companions.”

Handcock also explains the thinking behind the intrusion by the flatulent privateers from Raxacoricofallapatorius. “Knowing the Doctor won’t be around and continuity isn’t threatened, I couldn’t resist including a monster from the 2005 series of Doctor Who. Did anyone imagine Tegan and Nyssa would face off against the Slitheen? Probably not, but they do, and it provides a bit of levity against the more emotional story arcs we’ve been building.”

Hallowe’en, 1892. Celebrated novelist Charles Crookshap claims to have been receiving time communiqués, promising secrets that could change the world forever. But when the TARDIS interrupts the household’s evening, the Doctor realises he isn’t the only alien interloper in London.

Madquake by Guy Adams

Abandoned on the planet Callanna, Nyssa, Tegan and Marc take advantage of its therapeutic atmosphere to come to terms with recent events; but others seek to take advantage too. The Slitheen are on their way – and they’re ready to sell this world to the highest bidder!
