Stock up on treats, turn off the lights, and whatever you do, don’t answer the door from 6.25 this Sunday… The Halloween Apocalypse is coming!
What, when, where and, of course, who? The fundamental questions at the heart of the universe. And, even more importantly, at the heart of the wait for a new series of Doctor Who. But the BBC have now released more details about the Series 13 premiere, including the episode title, transmission time, runtime, and cast list. More than that, we now have the official synopsis that gives us a hint of what the Doctor is up to when we meet her again, and how exactly John Bishop’s Dan Lewis finds himself in her adventures. The title for the first part of the six part epic Flux is Chapter One: The Halloween Apocalypse.
Conveniently enough, and as we already knew, it airs on BBC One and BBC America on Hallowe’en itself, the 31st of October. But, specifically, it’s on at 6.25pm in the UK, with a duration of 49 minutes. The airtime in the US has yet to be confirmed, but BBC America have referred to the premiere as a ‘global viewing event,’ hinting they may first run The Halloween Apocalypse simultaneously. That would be a premiere time of 1.25pm ET/10.25am PT. Less spooky perhaps, but with the benefit of no little monsters knocking at the door looking for candy during Doctor Who…
Meanwhile, that official synopsis, describes the high stakes. Not just the Earth, but the entire universe is menaced by whatever threat the Flux represents. While it seems we meet the Doctor during an adventure already in progress, as she tracks down the dog faced alien Karanvista. Elsewhere, official photographs for the episode suggest Dan’s life changes forever because he’s about to be abducted by Karanvista.

Doctor Who: Flux – Chapter One: The Halloween Apocalypse Official Synopsis
On Halloween, all across the universe, terrifying forces are stirring. From the Arctic Circle to deep space, an ancient evil is breaking free. And in present-day Liverpool, the life of Dan Lewis is about to change forever. Why is the Doctor on the trail of the fearsome Karvanista? And what is the Flux?
We also now have the guest cast list for the episode, as well as old friends Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor and Mandip Gill as Yaz, and new regular John Bishop as Dan. Most interestingly, it reveals that the Swarm, first hinted by Chris Chibnall as a major element of Flux at last year’s New York Comic Con, are here from the very beginning of the story. But what role they play in the Halloween Apocalypse has yet to be revealed. The cast list also suggests we have a little longer to wait yet for the Sontarans, Weeping Angels, and even new ally Vinder (Jacob Anderson) to make their big entrance. In the meantime, Blogtor Who will be providing Cast Profiles over the course of the next week, to bring you up to speed on these actors and where you may have seen them in action before.
