There’s still time to become Big Finish’s newest writer with the Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trips Opportunity

Aspiring writers still have a chance of getting their Doctor Who audiobook story produced and released by Big Finish.  It’s all part of the annual Short Trips writing opportunity which closes at the end of June. The Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trip Opportunity honours the memory of Big Finish’s Paul Spragg. The cheerful, much-loved person at the heart of the production office passed away suddenly on 8 May 2014.

The four members of this year’s judging panel have also been announced

“There’s a sense of mystery and anticipation in the air, as we wait to see what delights all the hopefuls have cooked up for us this year,” said Big Finish Creative Director and Executive Producer Nicholas Briggs, who is one of the four members of this year’s judging panel.

“I’m delighted to have been asked back to judge this brilliant competition for a second year!” added Gabby De Mattheis, former Doctor Who Brand Editorial Manager at BBC Studios. Doctor Who has a unique knack for bringing out creativity in its fans, and I can’t wait to see what 2023’s entrants have conjured up for us.”

Big Finish Producer Dominic Martin is the newest member of the judging panel. “It’s an absolute honour to be casting my eye over the entries this year!” he said. “The competition is a wonderful time for people to unleash their creativity upon Big Finish, and it’s so awesome seeing people give it their best shot. I certainly hope that everyone has the best time writing them, as I’m sure we will have reading them.”

“It’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm, talent and originality in the entries we receive each year,” said Peter Anghelides, who is the Short Trips range producer and the fourth member of the judging panel. “It’s a fitting way to commemorate and celebrate Paul Spragg, who had such enthusiasm for encouraging new talent at Big Finish.”

This is the eighth year of the competition, which is open through to the end of June.

You can see both the terms and conditions and the writing guidelines on the Big Finish website. So make sure you read and follow those if you plan to send in a new story submission.
