Robert Hack returns for the 60th Anniversary with a second in BBC Books’ range of deluxe illustrated hardbacks
A new edition of Russell T Davies’ novelisation of his own script for Rose will arrive on the 23rd of December. But this time it will be in a lavish hardback edition, fully illustrated throughout by Robert Hack. The artist is widely acclaimed for his work reinventing classic comic book Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Hack’s book, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, was a critical hit and bestseller, and led to a four season TV adaptation. But Doctor Who fans also know him. His gorgeous illustrations graced the pages of last year’s Doctor Who and the Daleks: The Illustrated Edition. Now he’s working his dark magic again to bring new life to Doctor Who: Rose – The Illustrated Edition.
The new edition’s timing celebrates the return of the show-runner Russell T Davies to Doctor Who. But of course, it’s also to mark the 60th anniversary of the show. And there’s possibly no more appropriate volume to follow The Daleks than Rose. After all, it’s the story that relaunched Doctor Who for the 21st century.
You can pre-order the book from the usual stockists now. Only the cover art is available so far, with the interior illustrations still to come. However, readers can check out Blogtor Who’s review of Doctor Who and the Daleks. That should give a sense of how the new range is illustrated.

Rose is the story that brought Doctor Who back for the 21st century – and Russell T Davies’s novelisation, based on his script, set the standard for new-era Target novelisations. Now, with illustrations by acclaimed artist Robert Hack – this is Rose as you’ve never seen it before…
