In her final adventure, the Thirteenth Doctor reunites with some old friends… to take on some old enemies!
The BBC have revealed the first details of Jodie Whittaker’s final episode as the Doctor. The Doctor Who special, part of the celebrations of 100 years of the BBC, will be feature-length. But more than that it will feature the return of some of the Time Lord’s former companions! Janet Fielding will guest star as former air hostess Tegan Jovanka who travelled with the Fourth and Fifth Doctors. Alongside side her will be Sophie Aldred as Dorothy ‘Ace’ McShane, the Seventh Doctor’s former companion. The two 1980s stars will reprise their roles on screen for the first time since leaving the show.
Some of the Doctor’s more recent friends will be joining the Doctor for her epic battle for survival too. The BBC have also confirmed that Vinder (Jacob Anderson) and Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) to be appearing.
The former companions also spoke about their return to the show. Janet Fielding (Tegan) said “In some ways it was a very different experience to what it was like when I finished recording in 1983, but in many ways it was very similar. It was so lovely to be a working member of the Doctor Who family again.”
Meanwhile, Sophie Aldred (Ace) said “It’s been quite a challenge to have such a big secret to keep, even from my family, and I couldn’t be more thrilled and excited to have been asked back. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I adored being part of the TARDIS team again.”
Together the Doctor and her friends must face the Master, the Daleks and the Cybermen!
Together the Doctor and her friends will face the return of the Doctor’s greatest adversary – The Master (Sacha Dhawan)! Last appearing in Series Twelve’s finale The Timeless Children, the Master has already destroyed Gallifrey and tortured the Doctor with the true secret of the Timeless Child. But what evil is he planning now? And he won’t be alone in his schemes. For the first time since 1983’s The Five Doctors, The Master, the Daleks and the Cybermen will all feature in one single story.
Showrunner Chris Chibnall described their epic plans for the special, “Jodie’s final feature-length story contains a plethora of treats and surprises for audiences and fans, not least the return of two of the most beloved companions in the show’s history. They’ll be helping the Doctor fight on three fronts, against her deadliest enemies: the Master, Daleks and Cybermen, in one huge story!
“For the BBC’s Centenary, we’ll be celebrating the past, present and future of Doctor Who, in a fittingly thrilling, epic and emotional send-off for the Thirteenth Doctor.”
Written by Chris Chibnall and directed by Jamie Magnus Stone, the feature-length special will air later this year. It will form part of the BBC’s Centenary celebrations. Further details will be confirmed in due course. And Blogtor Who will let you know as soon as they are.
