Doctor Who’s Ncuti Gatwa is a Stranger on a Train

Ncuti Gatwa is signing up to a new adaptation of Strangers on a Train from the makers of The Zone of Interest

Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa is attached to star in Strangers on a Train. The new adaptation of the classic story is in the works from House Productions (The Zone of Interest.) The 1950 novel by Patricia Highsmith depicts how a man’s life spirals out of control following a chance encounter on a train. When the charismatic but psychopathic Bruno hears the more timid Guy venting about his adulterous wife he proposes trading murders. Bruno will kills Guy’s wife, and then Guy Bruno’s overbearing father. With no connection between the two men, there can be no motive and therefore no suspicion. Though Guy doesn’t take the idea seriously at first, it quickly takes a lethal turn.

Several productions have adapted Strangers on a Train, most famously the 1951 Alfred Hitchcock film. It’s also inspired countless adaptations and references, with characters in many TV episodes and films directly citing it as inspiration for their own murder schemes. House Productions’ version will take the form of a TV mini-series. Whether Gatwa is in line to play the charming Bruno or the heroic Guy is still unknown for now.

We also don’t know who else will be in the cast. We do know however that while the original novel takes place in New York, Texas and Mexico, the newest version transfers at least some of the action to Sitges in Spain.
