As part of this evening’s ‘The Big Night In‘ fundraiser, several incarnations of the Doctor have rallied together to support the nation’s real-life heroes!
Tonight (Thursday 23rd April) will see BBC One host ‘The Big Night In’, a jam-packed live show which looks to celebrate the acts of kindness, humour, and resilience which are keeping us going during these difficult times.
As part of this evening’s show, actors Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, Jodie Whittaker and Jo Martin (the Fugitive Doctor) have recorded a special thank-you message for the NHS and all frontline workers ahead of the weekly ‘Clap For Carers‘ at 8pm.
‘The Big Night In’ will mark the first time that the BBC’s biggest charitable partners, BBC Children In Need and Comic Relief, have come together. This evening aims to celebrate and reward those people going above and beyond to support their communities. Viewers will have the opportunity to donate during the show if they feel able to do so. Funds will be split equally between BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief, and will help to support local charities, projects and programmes across the UK offering aid to vulnerable people of all ages and backgrounds who will be significantly impacted by the current COVID-19 crisis.
Elsewhere, as well as this team of current and past Time Lords, a whole host of other celebrities have been confirmed to be taking part in ‘The Big Night In’ from the safety of their own homes. These include Little Britain, Peter Kay, Gary Barlow, People Just Do Nothing, and The Vicar of Dibley.
Tenth Doctor David Tennant is also due to make a re-appearance during the show alongside former Doctor Who co-star Catherine Tate as they star in a brand-new comedy sketch. Reprising their roles from their iconic 2007 Comic Relief sketch, Tate will play one of her best-known characters, schoolgirl Lauren Cooper, with Tennant as her long-suffering teacher. Lauren finds herself stuck in self-isolation, a situation she couldn’t be less bovvered about. Her teacher is now faced with the impossible task of trying to teach this loud-mouthed teenager remotely.
‘The Big Night In’ will be hosted Matt Baker, Zoe Ball, Lenny Henry, Davina McCall and Paddy McGuinness. Tonight’s show will also feature musical acts, money can’t buy prizes, comedy sketches and many more surprises!
