Doctor Who crashed the Eurovision party to reveal the first trailer for our Diamond Anniversary celebration!

After teasing it over the course of the past week or so with a series of blipverts between programs, the first full trailer for the Doctor Who 60th Anniversary specials is here! It kicked off the Eurovision coverage on BBC One and squeezed about as much excitement into its brief runtime as the rest of the night combined!

The trailer gave us more of David Tennant’s returning Doctor, more Donna Noble, and our first proper look at Donna’s daughter Rose, as played by Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney. Meanwhile, we also got a sense of just how creepy Neil Patrick Harris’ new villain will be. Or is he new? Speculation that he’s in fact an old one with a new face: the First Doctor’s nemesis, the Toymaker, will reach a new fever pitch as fans pour over every detail of the trailer. Whomever he is, we can certainly be relatively sure now that he’ll be in all three specials.

But the trailer continues the Bad Wolf team’s cunning strategy. Even six months away from the Diamond Anniversary, they’re masterfully building the excitement for it with every new glimpse. Yet, we still know practically nothing about them, and it seems we still don’t know much about the second and third episodes in the trilogy. Longtime fans of Doctor Who Magazine readers may feel they can guess at some of the answers for the first special, but who knows how things will play out? It does look like we can now be pretty sure

Perhaps most excitingly though we have episode titles!

  • Special One: The Star Beast
  • Special Two: Wild Blue Yonder
  • Special Three: The Giggle

Relive all the thrills for yourself with the trailer below!

Speaking briefly about the trailer, Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies said, “The titles are just the beginning of the Doctor’s biggest adventure yet. Autumn is coming, with three hours of danger, Donna and disaster about to be unleashed!”
