Doctor Who: Flux isn’t even over yet, but the BBC have already announced initial details of January’s Doctor Who Special!
As part of their unveiling of their new Christmas schedule, the BBC have announced the first details of the Doctor Who New Year’s Day special. The festive episode will see the Doctor, Yaz and Dan embark on a new adventure. They’re joined by guest stars Aisling Bea (This Way Up, Living With Yourself, Quiz), Adjani Salmon (Dreaming Whilst Black, Enterprice) and Pauline McLynn (Father Ted, Shameless). You can also check out the official synopsis below, though the title of the episode is yet to be revealed.

Sarah (Aisling Bea) owns and runs ELF storage, and Nick (Adjani Salmon) is a customer who visits his unit every year on New Year’s Eve. This year, however, their night turns out to be a little different than planned…
What’s more, the Christmas schedule will include the eight episode mini-series of Around the World in 80 Days starring David Tennant. PLUS the by now Christmas tradition of a new Julia Donaldson animation, this time starring Doctor Who’s own Matt Smith. Yes, the former Eleventh Doctor will be… Superworm! In a very different festive tradition, Mark Gatiss pens a new MR James Ghost Story for Christmas, too, with Robert Bathurst (next week’s Survivors of the Flux) starring in The Mezzotint. And there’s more thrilling tension with Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Tish Jones) starring in the four part adaptation of JP Delaney’s The Last Girl.
Meanwhile, Bradley Walsh is back for a special Blankety Blank, Sheridan Smith (Lucy Bleedin’ Miller!) is on a special Strictly Come Dancing, and Bonnie Langford (Mel) is on the Would I Lie to You Christmas special.
