The Ninth Doctor and Rose encounter an old friend on the Pacific Ocean in 1886 as The Doctor attempts to locate an ally that might be able to assist in healing Rose’s mind, but the foe that The Twelfth Doctor encountered in the future presents itself with deadly consequences.
Following on from the Twelfth Doctor’s introduction to an unknown foe, the Ninth Doctor and Rose are hauled onto a ship in the Pacific Ocean where they are greeted by an ally who’s on a mission to discover members of her ancient family. But with The Doctor keeping secrets and Rose’s mind growing weaker, the true threat to all of time and space makes itself known with -peace.
Writer Cavan Scott displays vigour, confidence, humour and wilful drama as he builds the conflict with snappy dialogue and intellectual stamina. He maintains the plot points with sparkling comedy and heated emotional beats.
The Ninth Doctor and Rose’s development as individuals and as a partnership are clearly presented with wise cracking jokes and determination. Rose is wonderfully full of life and her empathy and hostility seep through her words.
Artists Adriana Melos and Cris Bolson bolster their lines and fine shapes with precise strokes and immersive facial details. The tension of the action sequences is lifted with intimate emotional conflicts of the characters.
Likewise, colourists Marco Lesko and Dijjo Lima use light and shadow to bring the atmosphere, temperature, and energy of the settings to sombre and sizzling life.
The second chapter to this multi-doctor story adds even more phenomenal partnerships and reunions to the overall story arc. With each Doctor and his era bringing their own energy and experiences to the story, the only emotion remaining is the brain spilling excitement of what’s to come!
