Today the BBC release the new logo for a new Doctor. When Doctor Who returns in this autumn for series 11, the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker, will hold the keys to the Tardis and this new logo with brand the changes for this era.
The iconic image was shown at BBC Worldwide’s annual showcase event in Liverpool to over 700 of the world’s top TV buyers and international press. The design was created by Little Hawk in close cooperation with Showrunner Chris Chibnall and Executive Producer Matt Strevens. LittleHawk is an independent brand, design and creative studio based in in London. The company was founded in 2017 by Jen Lane and Gavin Leisfield.
The BBC also released a 10 second animation with the new logo and the Doctor’s TARDIS with sound created by Matthew Herbert. Matthew is a critically acclaimed British musician, producer and sound artist as well the Creative Director of the New Radiophonic Workshop. He was commissioned by BBC Worldwide to work on the 10 second animation.
BBC Worldwide Executive Creative Director, Rafaela Perera says: “The Doctor Who logo and insignia are the quintessential signifier for the brand. Our aim was to create modern and elegant designs that were anchored in the things that we love most about Doctor Who.”
Doctor Who is one of the showcase product for the BBC Worldwide event. The programme has a huge global following and has been sold to over 239 territories in previous years. BBC Worldwide hopes to capitalise on the excitement of the new female Doctor at this week’s event. To help build the anticipation official series 11 Doctor Who products are now available at selected retailer around the world.
Doctor Who is a BBC Studios production for BBC One created in co-production with BBC America. The programme is currently filming and will return to television screens around the world later this year.
