David Tennant returns as Simon Yates in a special episode of There She Goes, filming now

Doctor Who won’t be the only old project that David Tennant will be revisiting in 2023. Filming has started on a special episode of the BBC comedy drama There She Goes. David Tennant and Jessica Hynes (Human Nature/Family of Blood) both return to the series which originally ran from 2018 to 2020.

There She Goes is based on the real-life experiences of writers Shaun Pye and Sarah Crawford and their family. The series follows the day-to-day life of Rosie Yates (Miley Locke), a severely learning disabled girl and her family, dad Simon (Tennant), mum Emily (Hynes) and older brother Ben (Edan Hayhurst). This special will see the family struggling to deal with now 13-year-old Rosie’s increasingly wild behaviour. As she tries to comprehend puberty, they search to unlock the secrets of Rosie’s chromosomal condition.

There’s no word yet on when we can expect the special to arrive on screen. BBC Four broadcast the first series before the second moved to BBC Two, but the special’s home is still unknown.

There She Goes joins a busy slate of projects for David Tennant in 2023

This is just one of a number of projects David Tennant is working on this year. As well as Doctor Who and There She Goes, he’s already filmed a second series of Good Omens as the demon Crowley opposite Michael Sheen’s angelic Aziraphale. He’ll also be lending his voice to ARK:The Animated Series with Gerard Butler, Russell Crowe, and Michele Yeoh. He’ll be voicing animated sitcom Standing By too, together with Dan Levy and Glenn Close as unmotivated guardian angels.

In live action, he and Georgia Tennant co-star in Hide, a modern update of the Jekyll and Hyde story, with David as an investigative journalist who begins to experience unexplained blackouts after an accident. And he’s also set to reunite with Jessica Jones co-star Krysten Ritter in a movie adaptation of the play Fuddy Meers. There, Tennant will be the antagonistic ‘Lisping Man,’ who kidnaps the amnesiac Claire.

So it seems that for David Tennant fans as well as Doctor Who fans, 2023 is shaping up to be an exciting year.

Series 1 and 2 of There She Goes are available to view on BBC iPlayer.
