Well, the San Diego Comic Con and the Nerdist are getting a lot of Doctor Who treats this year.   Kyle Anderson, a.k.a. the Nerdist’s Whovian is moderating a panel on Classic Doctor Who panel, Thursday, July 20, at 5:00 pm in the Indigo Ballroom at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel.  Accompanying America’s Doctor Who Fan will be Fifth Doctor Peter Davison, Sixth Doctor Colin Baker, and Sophie Aldred, who portrayed the Seventh Doctor’s companion, Ace.

We’d love to be there but that’s not the number one reason we’re so jealous.  Evidently, the panel will reveal a sneak peek of a newly reconstructed lost episode of the Second Doctor story “The Wheel in Space.”

Once it is finished, this lost episode will be available on BritBox – the live streaming sites supported by the BBC and ITV but only in America.  BritBox has many many British past television series including the largest classic Doctor Who catalogue anywhere on the net. (Only in America).  The streaming service will soon have reconstructions of the other 97 lost episodes of Doctor Who once they have been created.  Before you ask, no we have no idea when they will be available in the UK.

So if you are a lucky person with tickets to SDCC make sure you drop by and visit the Classic Doctor Who Panel. And don’t miss the main Doctor Who Panel hosted by the Nerdist Chris Hardwick on Sunday 23rd July.  Peter Capaldi, Steven Moffat, Pearl Mackie, Matt Lucas, Michelle Gomez and Mark Gatiss will be in attendance along with a special sneak peek of the Christmas Special.

  1. Just the one episode or are they planning to restore the others for a DVD release of the whole story? Hopefully it’ll not just be a digital-only release although it would be ironic to have an episode from a story that was lost due to shortsightedness only be available in a temporary format.

    • They are planning to restore as many episodes as possible but this is only the second one restored. No plans at present for a DVD but I am expecting to see one soon.
