As February draws to a close, the latest Doctor Who Short Trip has been released by Big Finish. However, this is no ordinary Short Trip. ‘The Astrea Conspiracy’ sees the Twelfth Doctor make his debut on Big Finish.
February’s Short Trip, ‘The Astrea Conspiracy’ is the first Big Finish story to feature the Twelfth Doctor. The Twelfth incarnation of the Doctor was of course played on TV screens by Peter Capaldi from Christmas Day 2013 to Christmas Day 2017. Big Finish Productions have for many years brought us new stories from past incarnations of the Time Lord. For instance, the Eighth Doctor as played by Paul McGann who appeared in the 1996 TV Movie. The War Doctor, as played by John Hurt who similarly had a limited appearance in character on television. Now it is the turn of the Twelfth Doctor.
Sadly Peter Capaldi himself is absent. However, Neve McIntosh adds an element of circularity, as she appeared opposite the Twelfth Doctor in his television debut ‘Deep Breath’. Now she is narrating the Twelfth Doctor’s debut on Big Finish. Let’s hope for plenty more exciting Twelfth Doctor stories to come in the future!
Doctor Who: Short Trips Monthly is a series of new short stories read by an original cast member.
The conspirators sit in Antwerp, plotting to kill King Charles the Second. Aphra Behn’s mission is simple: get former lover William Scot to turn against his treasonous comrades. But her money is running out and the complications don’t stop there. A strange Scottish man arrives at her inn with troubling news.
William Scot is out and the Doctor is in.
