The Two Masters
Alex Macqueen and Geoffrey Beevers’ Masters join forces for Big Finish!

The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, released today, has revealed details of three upcoming releases from prolific audio drama producers Big Finish.

Between April and June, the Master will be returning to the Doctor Who Main Range for the first time since October 2003. The trilogy of double-disc releases will see three Doctors battling two incarnations of the Master.

April kicks things off with …And You Will Obey Me, by Alan Barnes. This will see Peter Davison’s Fifth Doctor visit an English village which he thinks is the Master’s final resting place, only to find aliens aren’t letting him rest in peace. Geoffrey Beevers returns as the Doctor’s greatest foe for this release, which you can pre-order here.

May continues the theme as the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) investigates a series of disappearances, suspecting the Master’s involvement. Vampire of the Mind, by Justin Richards, is also hinted to see the Doctor and the Master return to the scene of an earlier battle as Alex Macqueen reprises his incarnation. Pre-order it here.

The saga concludes in June with The Two Masters by John Dorney. Little is known about this release yet except that Sylvester McCoy’s Seventh Doctor will be drawn into a desperate battle with his old enemy – and that both Beevers and Macqueen will take starring roles as opposing incarnations. Fans have been asking Big Finish for a multi-Master for a long time and after a series of ambiguous responses, this announcement has already been met with an overwhelmingly positive response from the company’s fan base. Geoffrey Beevers originally played the Master in 1981 TV story The Keeper of Traken but has reprised the role for Big Finish many times, including in their Doctor Who fiftieth anniversary story The Light at the End. Alex Macqueen was cast as a new incarnation for 2012’s UNIT Dominion box set, featuring the Seventh Doctor, and has since featured very heavily in the adventures of the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann), quickly earning fans’ affection.

All three releases are directed by Jamie Anderson, the son of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, most famous as the creators of shows such as Thunderbirds, Stingray, and Captain Scarlet – as well as Terrahawks, which Big Finish revived last year. He also wrote a story for December’s You Are The Doctor and Other Stories collection – read the Blogtor Who review here – and directed two of this year’s Fifth Doctor stories, which will be released from January to March.

They are all priced at £14.99 for the CD release, or £12.99 to download and can all be listened to independently of the others. More details of these three exciting adventures will be revealed over the coming months.
