Demon Records and Big Finish have come together this week to release an exclusive vinyl printing of 1963: Fanfare for the Common Men, only available in selected UK ASDA stores

First released by Big Finish in 2013, Fanfare for the Common Men shone the spotlight on fictional 1960’s band John Smith and the Common Men, whose music the Doctor’s granddaughter Susan Foreman was seen enjoying in Doctor Who‘s very first episode, ‘An Unearthly Child‘.

This full-cast audio drama sees Peter Davison and Sarah Sutton reprise their respective roles as the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa. The Doctor takes Nyssa back to November 1963 to see the birth of one of the biggest bands in British history, the Beatles, only to find that they don’t exist. Instead, their place in music history has been usurped by Mark, James and Korky, aka The Common Men:

If you remember the Sixties, they say, then you can’t have been there.

The Doctor remembers the Sixties. That’s why he’s taking Nyssa on a trip back to November 1963. Back to where it all began. Back to the birth of the biggest band in the history of British music. Back to see those cheeky lads from Liverpool…

Mark, James and Korky. The Common Men. The boys who made the Sixties swing with songs like ‘Oh, Won’t You Please Love Me?’, ‘Just Count To Three’ and ‘Who Is That Man’.

The Doctor remembers the Sixties. And there’s something very wrong with the Sixties, if the Beatles no longer exist…

Now, Demon Records have teamed up with Big Finish to release a new vinyl edition of Fanfare for the Common Men, which is available to purchase now exclusively at selected ASDA stores across the UK. This audio story has been pressed onto two 140g red and purple LP vinyl records, numbered and presented in a gatefold sleeve with printed inner bags.
