As exclusively revealed in the latest issue of Doctor Who MagazineAlex Kingston will return in the latest instalment in Big Finish‘s The Diary of River Song series, due out in January 2021.

The Diary of River Song: Series 8 will see Kingston reprise her role as time-travelling archaeologist, adventurer, and the Doctor’s wife River Song in four new full-cast audio dramas. The series will also feature a number of other familiar voices, with Kingston‘s real-life daughter Salome Haertel starring as android Rachel Burrows, who first appeared back in The Diary of River Song‘s second series. She stars alongside Derek Griffiths, who plays 24th-century war criminal Annam Henic.

Elsewhere, John Leeson will reprise his iconic role as the Doctor (and later Sarah Jane Smith)’s faithful robot dog, K9. Regular Big Finish voice actor Tracy Wiles is also set to appear as a robot cat known as FE-LINE, along with Nicholas Briggs as the Mechonoids, as seen in First Doctor serial The Chase.

What’s more, Jane Slavin will return to Big Finish to reprise her role as Space Security Service officer Anya Kingdom, who this time is on a rescue mission with a difference.

The Diary of River Song: Series 8 will feature four brand-new robot-themed adventures:

The Diary of River Song: Series 8 is due for release in January 2021, and is available to pre-order now at the special price of £24.99 as a collector’s edition four-disc CD box set, or £19.99 as a download, exclusively from the Big Finish website.
