Awesome Con is set to become a Fantastic, Brilliant, Con as it reunites the Ninth and Thirteenth Doctors with Rose and Yaz! Plus Amy!
Washington DC’s Awesome Con is known for its line up of top tier guests every year. And next month’s event will be no different, with some iconic Doctor Who names set to take part. And they’ve just revealed that Christopher Eccleston (the Ninth Doctor) and Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) will be in DC for Awesome Con too! They join the previously announced Jodie Whittaker (the Thirteenth Doctor) and Mandip Gill (Yaz Khan). And there’s more! Karen Gillan (Amy Pond) will be there too!
You’ll also have the opportunity for group photos, with Eccleston and Piper doing photos together, and Whittaker and Gill doing likewise. Though be aware that Eccleston is only attending the Saturday of the three day convention, and the others only Saturday and Sunday. So if you’re only planning on going along one day of Awesome Con, it had better be Saturday to maximize the Doctor Who goodness.
Awesome Con takes place in Washington DC from the 16th June 16 to the 18 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. You can get tickets from the Awesome Con website at a whole range of price points, as well as pre-booking your tickets.
Awesome Con 2023 is going to be… fantastic!
Jodie Whittaker and Christopher Eccleston have much in common as Doctors, of course. They were both notable firsts – the first new Doctor of the 21st century and the first woman to play the role. And as Eccleston himself pointed out in response to Whittaker’s casting in 2017, they’re both “working class [and] Northern, what can go wrong?” Eccleston would later go on to also praise Whittaker as the “greatest” of all the Doctors. The two have worked together, as well, when Whittaker played the title role of Antigone in the Royal Shakespeare Society production with Eccleston as the secondary lead King Creon.
With five Doctor Who A-listers on the schedule, it’s clear that this year’s Awesome Con is going to be both fantastic and brilliant.
Let’s hope both Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper come together in the realm of Big Finish or if Rosé Tyler is going to be part of Once and Future which is an ongoing box set commemorating to doctor who’s 60th anniversary I want to hear The Ninth Doctor and Rose Tyler reunite.
