It was back to their home turf of Sheffield in ‘Arachnids in the UK’ so what did we learn about the newly named ‘Team TARDIS’? We met members of Yaz’s Family, Graham made an emotional return home and Ryan was… well Ryan was there.

Yaz

Yaz and Ryan are practically neighbours

We already knew they went to primary school together but haven’t really seen each other since. But it turns out they’ve been living quite close to each other the whole time. When they realise they have landed just outside Yaz’s apartment block Ryan is surprised saying, “I’m just over there” and that he can see her apartment clock from his window.

Family Life

The apartment block Yaz lives in is called Park Hill where she lives with her mum (Najia), Dad (Hakim) and younger sister (Sonya). In one way or another, they all drive her crazy.

Sibling rivalry

Yaz has a very confrontational relationship with her sister Sonya, constantly making jibes and insults at each other. In a previous episode (The Ghost Monument) Yaz had mentioned that her sister is desperate for Yaz to move out so that she can have her room.

Ryan

The affections of a Khan

Whether you’re rooting for a Yaz and Ryan relationship or not, it appears at least one member of the Khan family has taken a shine to Ryan. Yaz’s sister seemed quite pleased when Ryan mentioned him and Yaz were not an item. By the look on Ryan’s face though its safe to assume that the attraction wasn’t mutual!

Unfamiliar relations

Ryan says he doesn’t really know Graham much more than the Doctor does. Indicating he didn’t spend much time with him in the 3 years since his Nan married him.

Proper family

Ryan gets a letter from his father in which he claims his Dad wants to reconnect with him. He also mentions that his Dad refereed to himself as his ‘proper family’, a phrase Ryan said he doesn’t like. His Dad is clearly indicating that Graham isn’t Ryan’s ‘proper family’. Without Ryan stating it directly, he suggests that Graham is his proper family, saying about that his Dad, ‘He’s not proper’. This appear to be another step in the development of Ryan and Graham’s relationships, hopefully bringing them closer together.

Graham

Not a domestic god

According to his imagined conversation with Grace, Graham apparently doesn’t know how to change the hover bag. He had better learn quickly. That house might get a bit dusty while he’s away travelling with the Doctor!

He is still working through his grief

His brief trip home brought the memories of Grace flooding back and helped Graham realise that he is still dealing with his grief and would prefer to do that away from home, not just sitting around the house. What better way to spend his grieving time then than having adventures with the Doctor!
