The Doctor Who Chrismas Special trailer has aired and is available to view online. Within the trailer, we are treated to some tantalising moments. We go through a few of these below, but feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments.
Picking Up Where We Left Off
From the opening shot of the trailer it looks like the story for Twice Upon A Time will be picking up exactly where we left off. At the end of the ‘The Doctor Falls’, we saw the Doctor resisting regeneration and meeting The First Doctor. Surely that’s the start of the story for Christmas Day. Although, history with Moffat’s storytelling should forewarn us that his episodes don’t always start where we think they will. Could there be a rug pull to this story, or is that too confusing for a Xmas adventure?
The Glass Woman
The mysterious lady of glass is finally revealed. It looks like a stunning special effect, and will hopefully be a creepy presence in the episode. It would seem that in this scene The Glass Woman is on the battlefield where Mark Gatiss’s captain is rescued by the Doctors. Or is he kidnapped? Whatever’s going on it would seem the glass people are able to freeze time, do they then step in and cause mayhem? Their modus-operandi will become clear on Christmas Day.
From ice to fire, this episode seems sure to be taking us on a journey. Could this be an alternate Earth, the fall of the Greek Gods or are we in the distant stars? There’s an exploding moon, or ship, and interesting decor which seems like a mish-mash of styles from elaborate decor to space-age stylings. Is this where the Doctor’s final adventure takes place or is the episode a journey through multiple locations. One thing’s for sure, we know where we’re heading.
The End is Nigh
Is this the moment that the reign of Twelve ends. Does he choose to regenerate or is it forced upon him? From this shot, we are led to believe that it takes place in the TARDIS like previous regenerations since Who returned, and it has the same stance and effect as the most recent regenerations. Whilst it’s sad to say an end to Capaldi’s Doctor, start placing your bets now as to Jodie Whittakers’ first lines as The Doctor.
Doctor Who: Twice Upon a Time airs at 5:30pm Christmas Day 2017 on BBC One, whilst in the US it airs on BBC America.
