DOCTOR WHO - SHORT TRIPS - DAMASCUS by Jonathan Barnes
DOCTOR WHO – SHORT TRIPS – DAMASCUS by Jonathan Barnes

The Third Doctor, back for a Short Trip for the second month in a row, proves he is very much his own Time Lord in this story.

Narrated by Tim Treloar, Damascus is told from the perspective of the British Prime Minister in an audio recording, much like the Captain’s Log of Star Trek fame.

Invasion?

An alien ship, resembling a giant silver hub cap, is seen off the coast of East Anglia. But the Doctor isn’t interested since the owners only want to trade. The Doctor’s refusal to investigate has the Prime Minister feeling compelled to drive from London to UNIT’s East Anglia headquarters to confront him about his inaction.

Doctor Who?

But, as half the population falls inexplicably asleep, the Doctor concludes something is afoot after all and is joined in his yellow roadster Bessie by the Prime Minister. The PM is now left wondering who, in the galaxy, the Doctor is.

Road to Damascus

Damascus seems an unlikely name for this story. It is named after the place where the apostle Paul progressed from being a persecutor of Christians to the greatest believer. Or rather it’s named after a project which has the taken the Damascus name. This gives the story written by Jonathan Barnes, a second layer of mystery that leaves you wondering how much more we might hear about this project in upcoming releases.

Final thoughts

As indicated by the title, Short Trips are usually short and to the point, While this one joins its predecessors, it certainly covers a lot of mysterious ground. We are definitely ready to hear more about ‘Damascus’.
