Fourth Doctor Tom Baker is the latest Doctor to join the line up for Big Finish’s ‘Classic Doctors, New Monsters – Volume 2’ due for your listening pleasure in 2017.
That’s the classic Doctor of the tale but which new monster will he face? Who turned out the lights? Yes, the Vashta Nerada are back!
The Vashta Nerada were first introduced to the Whoniverse back in 2008 when the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) encountered them in the greatest library in the universe. The Doctor, companion Donna Noble and a newly introduced River Song soon discovered the carnivorous creatures living in the shadows as they slowly picked off all those around them.
Unlike, the Tenth Doctor, in ‘Night of the Vashta Nerada’ written by John Dorney the Doctor is travelling alone. But he is not completely alone as he is joined by British TV favourite Pam Ferris (Call the Midwife, Rosemary and Thyme) as professional hunter Amanda Steele.
Synopsis
Funworld was set to be the happiest planet in the galaxy. A planet of joy, of euphoria, of laughter and delight. Except construction was marred by reports of a predator and then, a few days before opening, all communication ceased.
Owner Georgia Donnelly is desperate to open the resort and has hired Amanda Steele’s crew to find out what happened on the planet. They’re the best. But even they might not be up to the task.
Joined by the Doctor and being picked off one by one, they slowly start to realise that something terrifying lurks in the shadows.
Also joining the adventure is Lorelei King (Doctor Who: A Town Called Mercy) as Georgia Donnelly, Emma Lowndes (Downton Abbey, Cranford) plays Phelan and Matt Devitt (Campus, Down to Earth) is Bernnetto.
‘Night of the Vashta Nerada’ is the second story to be announced for ‘Classic Doctors, New Monsters – Volume 2. In September it was announced that fifth Doctor Peter Davison will face The Racnoss, a race of huge ravenous spiders in ‘Empire of the Racnoss’. Davison will be joined by Doctor Who regular Adjoa Andoh who plays the Racnoss Empress, a megalomaniac engaged in a civil war with her crippled husband, the Emperor, played by Nigel Planer.
Two more stories, Doctors and monsters are yet to be announced that will complete this exciting new audio box set.
Doctor Who – Classic Doctors, New Monsters Volume 2 can be pre-ordered now at £20 on either Download or a CD set (which unlocks digital access).
