More on Victoria

The brand new drama announced by ITV last year follows the early life of Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman), from her ascension to the throne at the tender age of 18, through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert. Victoria went on to rule for 63 years and was our longest-serving monarch until she was overtaken by Elizabeth II on 9th September last year.

Victoria is made by Mammoth Screen, producers of Poldark (BBC One) and Endeavour (ITV), and is created and written by acclaimed novelist Daisy Goodwin, in her screenwriting debut. Daisy serves as executive producer alongside Dan McCulloch (Endeavour, Indian Summers) and Mammoth Screen’s Managing Director Damien Timmer (Parade’s End, Poldark).

The cast includes two familiar faces from Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) will play Mrs Jenkins, Victoria’s senior dresser and Tommy Knight (Luke Smith – Sarah Jane) plays Brodie. The stellar cast also includes Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle, The Pillars of the Earth) as Lord Melbourne, her first prime minister and intimate friend; Tom Hughes (Dancing on the Edge) as her husband Prince Albert; Alex Jennings (The Lady in the Van) as Leopold I, King of Belgium and uncle to both Victoria and Albert; Paul Rhys (Borgia, Being Human) as Sir John Conroy, the ambitious controller of the household of Victoria’s mother, the Duchess of Kent; and Peter Firth (MI-5) as Victoria’s conniving uncle, the Duke of Cumberland.

‘Victoria’ will also air on Masterpiece on PBS in the United States on the 15th January 2017.
