Yesterday, over 200 fans young and old were lucky to grab a wristband and pre-order their copy of Doctor Who: The Complete Ninth Series from HMV 363 Oxford Street, granting them access to an exclusive signing.
Braving both the early Spring chill and the unforgiving rush hour commute, the lines of attendees were soon ushered into the retailer by the most jovial of security guards. From 5 pm onwards they ascended to the second floor.
Like the Series 8 DVD launch in late 2014, it was a religious experience. Only this time, it was a very British way of entering into heaven. Fans waited – for up to 2 and a half hours – dancing to David Bowie classics as the Doctor greeted each of them on a stage with kind words and hand shakes. Plus, everybody got a Twelfie!
Peter looked especially Doctor-y and still fresh from a long day of press interviews. The signing then overran simply because of the generous amount of time he spent with the fans. As a life-long Whovian himself, he completely understands the value of what he calls the “best job in television”.
Peter was also presented with a variety of gifts like books, fan art, cakes including a huge book of messages from fans.
The series 9 box sets, which he signed with personal messages, simple greetings or lyrics, are packed with every episode from Last Christmas to The Husbands of River Song, as well as deleted scenes, featurettes and commentaries behind what is a masterful production from BBC Cymru Wales and the imaginations of the finest writers around. It may even change the way one views the creative process and life itself.
